"Grease" is one of my favorite musical films. Adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name, "Grease" concerns a group of teenagers from Rydell High, a fictitious high school, in 1959. The story, music, and acting are all fantastic.
One summer, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olson (Olivia Newton-John) meet and enjoy a summer romance. Sandy is set to go back home to Australia, but she changes her mind and ends up at school with Danny, much to his surprise. When they meet at a pep rally one night near the beginning of the school year, Danny is at first pleased to see her, but decides to maintain his tough-guy image in front of his friends, much to Sandy's dismay. Sandy starts dating a jock and Danny decides to learn various sports to impress her, but he fails miserably at them. In any case, they end up getting back together and going to the prom together. Things go well until Cha-Cha Gregorio shows up and steals Danny away from Sandy during the dance contest. Danny and Sandy end up getting back together again, however, and going to the drive in movie. When Danny makes a move on her, she becomes upset and dumps him. At the end of the school year, Sandy decides to get a makeover, they end up back together, and everyone leaves school happily.
Although most of "Grease" concerns Danny and Sandy, the movie also loosely follows a few other characters, most notably Rizzo (Stockard Channing) and Kenickie (Jeff Conaway). Rizzo and Kenickie go together near the beginning of the movie, but they break up about halfway through. Then Rizzo dates the leader of the Scorpions, the rival gang. Later at the drive-in, Rizzo fears she's pregnant since she misses her period, but by the end of the film, she learns that it was a false alarm and gets back together with Kenickie.
